Cortney's Kitchen Lamp Round- Up

What are your thoughts on bringing a lamp into the kitchen?  We think lamps bring stylish form into the kitchen, and lamplight brings a touch of life! There’s nothing like the glow of soft lamplight at the end of the day as you wind down in your own home.

It’s no surprise to us that the kitchen lamp trend of putting a lamp on the countertop is alive and well, but rather than call it a trend, we would love to point out that it’s always been a “thing” and is here to stay!  Not only is it a simple and inexpensive way to instantly update your kitchen, but there are practical reasons as to why it’s a good idea to update your space with lamplight. Our traditional farmhouse project got a stylish update with a small table lamp, and it’s used more than the overhead lights!

There are so many ways to introduce some fantastic form in the kitchen, and when it comes to lamps, the possibilities are endless. Take this oversized table lamp which is actually the perfect scale for this kitchen design by Minnie Peters. A large lamp in this kitchen design of vast proportions with no upper cabinets to interrupt the eye’s line of sight, all at once balances out some negative space, and provides some glowwy light in the kitchen when needed.

Although a lamp may add a stylistic look to a kitchen counter, the purpose of lamplight in the kitchen can be much more important. To put it simply: adding a lamp to your kitchen countertop provides both form AND function. It’s possible to have a lamp that’s design sparks joy while also helping your sleep-wake cycle. The kitchen lamp exists for the simple purpose of turning off overhead lights in the evening hours for that soft-glow as it’s time to wind-down for the day, or for middle of the night light when necessary. For example, this tiny task-lamp provides a gentle glow in this dusk or dawn-lit kitchen photo by designer duo Chris Loves Julia.

It’s not just nighttime, either. Similarly, rather than be assaulted by full lights in the early morning, we prefer using lamplight to slowly welcome the day. In the wee hours of the morning, while the kids are still sleeping and the coffee is brewing, walking into a kitchen softly lit by a countertop is a much more soothing way to adjust to the coming day.  We love the soothing tones and the use of a lamp in this kitchen design by Heidi Callier!
